Employers and the Second Chance programme

Many Australian businesses are realising the benefits of proactively engaging with migrant, refugee, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women by supporting pathways to meaningful, long-term employment.

Both Real Futures and SisterWorks have ongoing dialogue with multiple businesses on linking employment opportunities to the programme.

More and more businesses are getting engaged because of the tremendous benefits to employing migrant, refugee, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.

How SCE partners work with employers

Real Futures and SisterWorks consult with employers and design bespoke training for potential candidates to meet the employer and role requirements.

They support and champion both employee and employer through a transition phase until both are thriving in their new work relationship.

SisterWorks has provided online creative workshops for corporations, with SCE women providing speaking engagements, and has partnered with businesses for selling women’s products.

Why employ migrant, refugee and Aboriginal women?

There are tangible benefits to employing migrant, refugee, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women.

As an employer, you:

  • close skills gaps
  • create culturally diverse workplaces that are inclusive and dynamic
  • expand the knowledge and capability of existing employees
  • meet corporate social responsibilities
  • achieve higher retention rates
  • facilitate economic empowerment for migrant, refugee and Indigenous women
  • meet Women’s Gender Equality Agency (WGEA) reporting targets
  • open opportunities to be a signatory to UN Women’s Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEPs)
  • when employing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women, gain increased opportunities to tender for government and corporate contracts.
